A business built on experience, Design Blasting Services, LLC was founded for several reasons. Chief among those reasons was necessity. Employed for most of their working life by their father and well-respected blaster/business owner, Ben Coleman, Brent and Ryan Coleman learned what it meant to be  “powder men” at an early age.

Laboring for long hours with people three times their senior taught Brent and Ryan about respect and taking pride in one’s work. Owing to their father’s business, the guys were fortunate enough to work with some of the industry’s best explosives engineers who mentored them on becoming  technically sound blasters.

Brent and Ryan advanced their knowledge of the blasting industry by taking the lead on several projects throughout the Southeast and Midwest during the early to mid-2000s. During this time, the pace of their father’s business continued to grow rapidly. Work was plentiful and it took an army to maintain the project list. But in 2008, the construction industry came to a screeching halt. Left with no work to bid, let alone compete for, Ben decided to close the doors of his long successful business. Now faced with the proposition of working for another contractor, Brent decided to form his own company, Design Blasting Services, LLC.

While the necessity to regain employment was obviously a major factor in the formation of Design Blasting Services, LLC, the other principal factor is what matters most to our customers. In the 1990s through the late 2000s, the booming construction industry compelled private blasting contractors to employ large groups of workers to keep up. The problem with this solution was that many were made lead blasters before they were sufficiently trained.

Accidents were frequent and the overall projects often suffered due to poorly fragmented rock. Design Blasting Services, LLC set out to take a different approach by employing a smaller team of highly trained drillers and blasters each capable of managing the most sensitive blasting operation. This strategy promotes reduced overhead while maintaining a safe and professional work environment for our customers. As every manager knows, it’s the people in the organization that steer the ship, and by ship we mean state-of-the-art hydraulic rock drills!

Thank You to all of our customers for entrusting us with your blasting needs!
